“Secret IN-gredient” #3 of Weight Loss
In this short blog series we are touching on some very special “ingredients” that we see routinely contribute to our clients’ weight loss success. These factors will create the ideal “recipe” for YOUR weight loss and weight management success, too. We call them “IN-gredients” because the first two letters of each word we are sharing about begin with “I-N”.
In the last writing we shared key IN-gredient #2: IN-TENSITY. Before that we touched on #1 which was IN-TENTION. Look back to check those out if you’ve not already seen them because every IN-gredient matters!
Although an individual pursuing weight loss may be very clear and focused on their IN-tention and even bring a great level of IN-tensity, everyone can benefit from good objective and science based INFORMATION. Understanding your own individual body, the changes that are happening as you do engage in a weight loss program as well as the best eating and exercise plan to sustain a healthy weight is critical information!
We use Testing and Technology right from Day 1 with our computerized BODY COMPOSITION ANALYSIS (BCA) which enables us to better understand that body of yours. WE (and you!) benefit by knowing what really makes up your current weight. This preliminary test is critical, and it's the baseline that we will utilize to truly understand what's going on "inside" of your body as you are losing unhealthy fat.
The key components that we monitor through the BCA are:
- Body Mass Index (BMI)
- Body fat%
- Body water %
- Visceral fat
- And, check this out … it also enables us to measure actual POUNDS of fat, muscle, water and bone weight.

So, it’s not just about your overall weight. It’s about your specific make up and what all you have going on inside. This is important INFORMATION we want to know about our clients when they show up to get started as well as during their entire weight loss journey.
How much FAT could you safely and sensibly shed? What is that ideal and healthy goal?
HINT: the ol’ height/weight wall charts do not tell the whole story and may actually be misleading … and frustrating you un-necessarily!
What about MUSCLE? Some people have more muscle mass which may make the scale read heavier than a peer who has much less muscle mass. Yet, they may be the same height and generalize size. Therefore, they should NOT necessarily be aiming for the same target weight! And, you should always be sure that you do not lose weight at the expense of losing muscle mass. Body Composition Analysis enables us to do that and monitor such INFORMATION for you so that you can lose weight effectively and safely.
We also use GENETIC TESTING. That’s right we check our weight loss clients’ DNA! Just like we’re all different on the outside, we’re all very unique inside, too! People differ in the way they process and assimilate different nutrients, how they store and absorb them and more. Until a person knows this, they are probably just guessing at ratios of proteins, fats and carbs they need.
In his book The Road Ahead, Bill Gates said this: “DNA is like a computer program but far, far more advanced than any software ever created.”
If Bill Gates said it, it “probably” makes good sense to heed such wisdom! So, that’s what we do!
A well-known clinical study was performed by one of America's top universities, Stanford University. The purpose of the study was to determine if DNA testing was effective to assist in helping people to lose weight. When compared to other well-established and effective weight loss programs, those people that were on a meal plan that was specific to THEIR genetic profile lost 2.5X more weight than those that were not on an individualized plan.
The science clearly speaks for itself, and it's why we utilize genetic testing to identify the best plan for each client as they progress in our program. Their Genetic Report serves as their long-term success manual. This INFORMATION puts the CONTROL back in their hands! For the rest of their life, they'll know how to eat to be as fit and healthy as possible. The test is completely painless and non-invasive, and an imperative part of their focused lifestyle change!
When it comes to your weight loss and wellness begin with good, clear INTENTION. Decide to bring some high INTENSITY. And make sure your coach and/or doctor is able to gather and track critical INFORMATION to measure and monitor your body and success.
